Speaking of Goodwill

While at Goodwill searching for a costume befitting Robin Hood, I found this little gem. Obviously, I would have drooled had it been the real thing, but a replica will work for a $1.99.

Here's my plan. I'd like to use it in the kitchen, but my kitchen needs some color so the current color just won't do. My plan is to spray paint it and set it on a photo easel on top of my cabinets. I'm still deciding what color, but it will be in a shade of one of my Fiesta colors- orange, maybe??

Have These, I Must

Were you impressed by my Yoda speak there? I am not a huge Star Wars fan; but I happened to marry someone who enjoys a good Star Wars movie and I happened to birth a certain boy that can tell you all you need to know about Star Wars and anything remotely related to it (granted, the majority of the time he's making it up as he goes - but I give him props for trying).

So, I think our household needs these or these. I mean, how great would breakfast be?? And decorating those cookies - be still my heart with the outlining that could be done on those bad boys. I'm just saying, I need them.

Apparently I'm Old

I have had a few incidents in the past week that have clued me into the fact that, even though I'm completely comfortable with my age and actually prefer my 30's over my 20's, I'm getting old(er). Two of these little happenings were yesterday and left me feeling truly like a veteran mom/CEO of a household.

I have been in need of a new iron for a few weeks now. My old one did me proud and has lasted for at least a decade, but last time I was doing some sewing, it was spitting all over my material. So, yesterday, I picked up this little beauty from Target (except in bright green).

Not only was I excited about my purchase, but I proceeded to try it out last night as soon as all three boys were in bed and got all our clothes ironed. S might not actually recognize the closet today, because ironing has been one of those chores that has definitely fallen by the wayside since having the babies. Besides for sewing projects, the last time I remember ironing, I was sitting on the side of our bed because my stomach protruded about 3 feet. So, yeah...But, so far, the iron is great! It gets the job done so much quicker than my relic, and it's cute! So there's my first clue to my age rising like the yodeler on Price is Right.

The next was also brought on by my trip to Target. I needed new blush and I hate changing my make up brands. I just feel like when I make a switch, it's never as good as what I had before, but then I'm not going to waste money to go back and buy what I had before. And by the time I use up the new-not-so-good-stuff, I've forgotten what I had before, or they've changed it for marketing purposes. But yesterday I had a great coupon (crap; another sign I'm old!!) for buy one get one free on any Cover Girl. So, I decided to give their new line a try. I'm not sure which factor makes me older, the stubborness of not wanting a new brand of make up, or the fact that I came home with a blush and foundation of Simply Ageless by Cover Girl. But, I've found a new favorite make up; it's fabulous!! So, I guess old dogs can learn new tricks every once in a while-as long as they have a coupon to go with it.

Another Kitchen Update

I had one of those random thoughts a couple of weeks ago that it would be fun to have the word 'eat' somewhere in our kitchen. I also wanted it to be in the peacock color from my Fiesta Ware. So, I picked up some plain letters from Hobby Lobby and a can of spray paint, and here's what I got for $8

I really wanted three different fonts for my letters, but they options they had wouldn't have looked good together. And I was too impatient to drive around to other stores to look.

Since they're so thin, they weren't going to stand up on their own. But we had these nifty little pieces of thick cardboard left over from something we bought. So, I hot glued each letter to one of these. Unfortunately, I realized afterwards that I should have cut around the parts that would show through before I glued them, but we improvised and made it work.

And here's the finished product! I like it and I think it's a fun touch for our kitchen!

Eating Area Makeover

I've been wanting a desk/command center in our kitchen/eating area for quite a while now. I needed an area where everything had its place, and a good spot to use for keeping our family activities running smoothly. The original plan was for my fil to make a desk top to go on top of desk drawers we already owned. But, earlier this week, S had the idea to use a table we already had in the office since he was also planning a makeover in there also. So, for now, this is my command center. What do you think? I think, size wise, it fits the space well; but of course, I wish I had more room or some storage. But I'll live with it for a while and see how I feel about it in a few months.

And since we put the table here, the shelves that resided here had to go somewhere else. So they are now over in the little sitting nook in the eating area. I don't love it, but it's growing on me. Of course, I don't love the shelves to begin with, so that probably has something to do with it.

The next project is the garden window in the kitchen. Last summer, I had two of my plants living in the window with a couple of photos. But then the crazy winter we had hit, and we were having to keep the shade closed on the window to keep out some of the draft and my plants were getting frozen. They have now found new homes, and I'm not sure I'll put them back in the window. So now, what should I put here? Right now, the little wheelbarrow will stay; R made it and we're going to plant some flowers in the pot. What else should I add?
